The story of the creation of Baikonur, a place where history was made, is revealed to you. It's a story about the wonderful people who built it, including the houses of Yuri Gagarin and Sergei Korolev, and the launch of Spacecraft 1. You can see huge ships and their parts in the museum, which is located in the City Palace of Culture. The museum was founded in 1968 and currently hasfour halls and a gallery.
The houses of Gagarin and Korolev are two of the oldest buildings on the Baikonur Cosmodrome. These small structuresbear the names of two important figures in the history of space exploration: the first human being to orbit the Earth and the chief designer of the Soviet Union's rocket program. Today, these houses look very old and their interiors convey a sense of the 1950s, when space exploration was in its infancy. These monuments to space pioneers allow us to understand thesimple and austere conditions in which they lived and thelimited technology available at that time.
Visit to the Gagarin Space Center
After the departure of the crew members to the cosmodrome, we will take a stroll along the famous Cosmonaut's Alley. Every astronaut who goes into space for the first time on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft is required to plant a tree in this alley. The tradition was started by Yuri Gagarin, who planted his own tree before his flight.
On August 21st, 1957, the successful launch of the R-7 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) was conducted from the site. Four days later, on October 4th, the first ICBM launch took place. The site has been used frequently in the USSR for both manned and unmanned missions, using launch vehicles from the R-7 family, which were developed based on the first Soviet ICBM,the R-7.
The Baikonur Cosmodrome has long been a military facility, buttoday it is open to the public with passes. Some areas are still restricted to outsiders, but in 2017 a command complex on launch pad 250 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome was opened to tourists. From here, super-heavy Energia rockets are launched, and it's an experience that allows visitors to imagine themselves as a rocket scientist, pressing the "start" button and sending a rocket into space.
At the end of the day, guests will enjoy an unforgettable dinner featuring the delicious national cuisine of Kazakhstan, accompanied by the local musicians and artists.
Finally, the time has come for the most important and exciting event. We will reach the observation post, from which we will watch the rocket prepare for launch from the closest safe distance.
And now, a few minutes remain before the moment when the rocket, enveloped in clouds of smoke, will explode into the sky. The roar of the engines and the shaking of the ground, the countdown - all this is real, it is all happening right now.
